As Memorial Day weekend reminds us to honor the brave men and women who served our nation, Skippack Township is proud to recognize a meaningful gift - a POW/MIA Memorial Chair dedicated to America’s missing and unaccounted-for service members.

The chair serves as a solemn and visible reminder that the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes must never be forgotten. Traditionally left unoccupied, a POW/MIA chair symbolizes those who never returned home and the empty place they continue to hold in the hearts of their families, fellow service members, and communities across the country.

Inscribed on the chair are the words:

"You Are Not Forgotten. Since World War II, more than 81,000 U.S. service personnel are unaccounted for. This unoccupied seat is dedicated to the memory of those brave men and women and to the sacrifices each made serving this country."

The memorial chair now stands as a place of reflection and remembrance within the township, especially meaningful during Memorial Day weekend, when communities across America pause to honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Skippack Township extends its sincere gratitude to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 25 for this thoughtful and lasting tribute. Their dedication helps ensure that the memory of our POW/MIA service members continues to live on for future generations.

This Memorial Day, residents and visitors are encouraged to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of the empty chair — a powerful symbol that while some heroes may still be missing, they are never forgotten.
