Skippack Township is fortunate to have beautiful parks and recreational spaces that are enjoyed by residents and visitors throughout the year. These parks belong to all of us, and we each play an important role in keeping them clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
Recently, Township staff have noticed an increase in litter, particularly around the Palmer Park playground area. Food wrappers, drink containers, and other trash left behind not only detract from the beauty of the park but also create additional maintenance work and can negatively impact wildlife and the environment.
We encourage everyone who visits our parks to take a few simple steps to help keep them clean and litter-free:
- Dispose of all trash and recyclables in the appropriate receptacles.
- If you notice litter, consider picking up a few items—even if they aren't yours.
- Teach children the importance of respecting public spaces by cleaning up after themselves and helping care for our parks.
- Leave picnic areas, playgrounds, and other park facilities cleaner than you found them.
Help Protect Our Park Surfaces
To help preserve the surface of the Palmer Park playground, we ask parents and caregivers to apply sunscreen before children enter the playground. Please apply sunscreen while standing on the surrounding grass or another nearby area—not on the playground safety surface.
Many sunscreen products can leave stains and discoloration on the playground's protective surface. Applying sunscreen off the playground pad helps protect this important community investment and keeps the playground looking its best for everyone.
We also remind all park visitors that bicycles, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, and similar wheeled equipment are not permitted on playgrounds or on the surfaces of tennis courts, basketball courts, or pickleball courts. These surfaces are designed for specific recreational activities and can be damaged by wheeled equipment, creating unnecessary repair costs and potential safety hazards.

By disposing of litter properly, respecting park rules, teaching children to care for public spaces, and helping protect our recreational facilities, we can ensure that Palmer Park and all Township parks remain beautiful places for everyone to enjoy.
