The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the immediate closure of the bridge carrying Evansburg Road over Shady Brook Run following the discovery of severe bridge scour during a recent inspection.
As a result, Evansburg Road is closed to all traffic between Hidden Forest Drive and Ivy Lane. The closure will remain in place until PennDOT bridge engineers can evaluate the damage and develop a plan to safely repair and reopen the structure.
During the closure, motorists are advised to follow the posted detour routes, which include Meeting House Road, Creamery Road, Route 113 (Bridge Road), and Mill Road. Drivers should expect possible delays and are encouraged to allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
The affected bridge is a single-span, arch deck structure originally built in 1930 and later reconstructed in 1971. It measures approximately 15 feet in length and 21.5 feet in width and typically carries an average of 3,247 vehicles per day.
