Snow Removal Reminder

The Township would like to remind residents that property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from their driveways and adjacent sidewalks, including snow that may be deposited by municipal snowplows during street clearing operations.

Additionally, the responsibility for clearing snow and debris from fire hydrants falls on the property owner or resident adjacent to the hydrant. A minimum three-foot radius must be cleared around the hydrant to ensure access, with recommendations to remove snow within 24 hours of a storm. We encourage all neighbors to participate in this responsibility as delayed access to a fire hydrant could impact any home in the neighborhood.

During extreme winter weather events such as the recent storm that included heavy snowfall followed by icing conditions, snow removal efforts become more challenging for everyone. The Township understands that some residents may be elderly or have health concerns that make snow removal difficult, and we truly appreciate the challenges this can present. We also recognize that continued low temperatures contribute to ongoing icing conditions and that the safe clearing of some areas may require additional time.

Residents should be aware that snowplowing operations may result in snow being pushed into driveway entrances (Also known as the driveway apron) or onto sidewalks. While this can be frustrating, the Township’s top priority during winter storm events is keeping roadways clear and passable for emergency response vehicles, public safety services, and the safe travel of all residents and visitors throughout the Township.

Please note that it is prohibited to place, push, or deposit snow or ice into roadways, as doing so creates hazardous conditions and interferes with municipal snow removal operations.

If you are unable to clear snow and ice on your own, the Township strongly encourages you to make advance arrangements with a family member, neighbor, or contracted snow removal service to assist you. Maintaining clear sidewalks and driveway access is essential for pedestrian safety and overall community accessibility.

All snow removal requirements and restrictions referenced above are outlined in the Township Code and are enforceable under applicable municipal ordinances.  This information can be found at Township of Skippack, PA Snow and Ice Removal.

The Township appreciates residents’ cooperation, patience, and understanding as we work together to keep the community safe during the winter season.
